Yesterday we went on several little adventures. First up was locating a new farm to source our raw milk. Luckily for us I had made contact with other like-minded folks and had a name and date set up to meet this farmer. He lives only about 15-20 minutes from our apartment, which is mind-blowing to me, considering the last 2.5 years I have been driving about 90 minutes every 10 weeks to pick up milk for our herdshare. Now I can just drive down the road a piece and get good wholesome fresh from the cow milk. Amazing!! Even though we had terrific directions we still had a tough time locating the farmer. The road he lives on is now longer than a mile to mile and half and we couldn't find him. After a phone call he sent us to the grain mill to meet one of his sons with the milk. We have yet to taste it. We still have milk from the store to drink up. Tomorrow will be the first day for our new fresh milk.
After the farm run, we treated ourselves to fresh Krispy Kreme donuts, mmm mmm good. My favorite doesn't seem to be as good as I remember, a chocolate creme filled donut. Next time I will go for the chocolate cake donut. Natalee devoured her chocolate sprinkle donut, a first for her. She usually just picks at the sprinkles. Guess that is a testament to Krispy Kreme's baking. Next up was a visit to the Piedmont Environmental Center, I was so looking forward to this. A bit of education and fun. NOT, they were closed. So disappointing, because from reading their website it sounded almost like the science centers we had up in Cleveland. We are definitely missing the LENSC. Natalee wants to go see animals and hike. So we are on a hunt for something similar here.
Our last adventure for the day was All-A-Flutter Butterfly farm. What gem!! It's a bit small but packed with lot's of information and fun. Ton's of Monarch Butterfly's in various stages, from eggs, to caterpillars to cocoons. A learning experience for us all. The farm originally started out as a business in raising butterflies for weddings (releasing them instead of throwing rice) now they are running an educational farm.
