Last night we went to a fund raiser for LEAF - Lakewood Earth And Food - "a Lakewood Earth and Food Community is dedicated to the development of a more sustainable, healthful and economically viable community through environmentally responsible actions producing broad access to the purchasing, growing and trading of fresh, local foods, knowledge and culture." It this organization where we get our locally grown produce in the summer it's a CSA - community support agriculture program. At any rate Rutabaga Nights - was their first attempt at a fundraiser. The food was incredible, the beverages fantastic - Dave was amazed at the quality of the beer. The price was unbelievable. For $25 we got an all your could eat buffet - obviously on side plates and 2 drinks - alcoholic beverages. Then we could purchase tickets for move beer, wine, or mixed drinks for $4/piece. All the food was donated - fantastic restaurants that believe in local food served some incredible dishes. They have bands playing all night, dirt table for the kidlets to play in. A cake walk - with puppets twice the size of humans - and the cake looked like a basket of produce - the vegetables and fruit we sugar coated rice crisps and the cake was a multi-layer basket. They also had a silent auction - unfortunately it was too silent in that it didn't get enough traffic to really raise much money. However I am sure they have learned that lesson and will change that in the future. All in all - we had a great time.
