Broken bones and more

Today I had hoped was going to be a good day. Coffee at a neighbors house with all the neighborhood women who stay home during the day. Then lunch with Daddy at Chik-fil-a, followed by a visit to the doctor to take Nat's cast off and be put on a splint. Well I should have figured my day wasn't going to go that well, when Nat woke up around 2:30/3:00 am and then slept restlessly till 6:30 am when I got out of her bed and climbed into mine. She didn't wake until 9:15 am when I woke her - because the coffee was at 10:00. She got up, didn't want to eat, just lazed around had some juice, watch Dragon Tales and got dressed. I had told her we were going next door and who would be there. When we started to walk there - she got upset and told me she didn't want to go. She walked behind me and wouldn't talk to any of the kids or adults - wanted to leave and was quite upset with me and being there. Oh my -- I thought we were turning a corner. It's like we take 1 step forward then 2 steps back. She was somewhat comfortable when we left about an hour and half later to meet Daddy for lunch. I was hoping lunch would go better since last week we went to McDonald's to meet a friend there for lunch and play in their playplace. She had a ton off fun and didn't care about the kids, plus she didn't want to leave when time came. However today -- she wasn't happy being there. She would go into the play area but didn't want to play, wanted either Mommy or Daddy to play with her ... the only way I could get her to go down the slide was to climb up with her and stay up there. So we finally left for the doctor visit being all excited about the cast coming off and not wanting a splint. This time when they took the cast off she was more anxious about the noise and vibrations than before - reminder to bring ear plus next time. After taking off the cast - Dr Ballock was looking at it -- I didn't like the look on his face -- plus I myself could see the bend in her arm. But he said let's wait till we take pictures. The pictures showed the arm healing straight but there was still more of a bend then he like - plus Nat couldn't suppinate well. He asked when she last ate, unfortunately we went out for lunch so we could not fix it today. He put on a new cast, Nat wanted yellow - we got it on, then discovered a bump in the inside elbow region which would cause numbness and loss of movement in her last two fingers if left. So they had to AGAIN cut the cast off - Miss Natalee was not HAPPY about that -- man that girl is strong. Then cast again. This time she wanted white. And did not want to take the pink one home -- although by this evening it sounded like she wish she had taken it home. Oh well that is life. We are now schedule for another "surgery" on Tuesday morning at 6:30 am. What they do is put her under to manipulate the bone to make it straight. This better work. She is very tired of this and so is the momma.

On a positive note we have narrowed down the preschool selection to two schools. The Westlake Early Childhood Team and we have developed a plan for Nat for the remainder of the year and for the beginning of next year till the end of the first quarter. We feel this is the right direction but we feel bad that she has to go through this. We are hoping that they give her some coping strategies.

Here's to hoping all this trauma will lead to an even stronger and better arm she had before all of this began...! Poor girl... I wonder how much of that may be playing into the 'relapse' in social enthusiasm? It's so hard to tell how things like this can impact a kid her age... hey let's see if maybe we can get together in May or June like a day trip or something (we could meet somewhere halfway-ish and do something fun?) If y'all are up to it and if schedules align, of course! hugs to all of you from me and my shiny new ring ;o) (It's ok if Dave's still in shock, I myself am just now starting to let it all kind of sink in!!)

Natalee:
We wish you and your arm well and hope that it begins to get stronger and makes you a faster runner. The last hope is from your friend Kyle!
